2005-09-10 - 11:38 a.m. my head feels raw and irritable from what was certainly less then "my half" of a bottle of wine last night. the last thing i remember about my evening with jessie was arguing with her about the non-logic of tipping perfectly well-paid coffee shop workers. i found out that she gets 10 bucks an hour, plus tips. that pisses me off, because i always assumed coffee shop workers were paid shitty - like waitresses - and i assumed a moral obligation to supplement their income. but, 10 bucks an hour is more than i get paid at the library! fuck that. and, btw, "service" my ass. don't gas stations clerks provide "customer service"? what about receptionists? and i don't get any tips for bringing up library requests promptly and smiling sweetly for the patron. and then i think of all the disadvantaged workers - the _real_ workers in this country - who are slaving away in factories and warehouses for ungodly wages and no chances for tips. the idea of these totally middle-class, hipster, white college kids complaining about not getting tipped on top of their 10/hour, when they're putting in a measly 12 hours a week - that really irritates me.
