observations of the cool kids at various high schools.
first high school (a huge, typical school):
all the cool girls had straight or straightened hair. really. it was an amazing moment when this fact became apparent to me.
i acquired cool-dar, i was a pro. frizzy, wavy, or curly hair? obvious loser-girl.
second high school (very small, "alternative"):
all the cool kids have things or do things that are totally ancient in origin. what does that mean?!?!
scenario 1 - "i like your belt, dakota!" "oh thanks, i've had it forever."
scenario 2 - "interesting tatoo, ashley." "oh thanks, i got it like so long ago, and my friend did it for me."
(notice emphasis on alternative means of acquistion.)
also cool - being in a band thats been around, like, forever. wearing old clothes your friend gave you a long time ago, and that came from the thrift store. having been into that band, like, forever.
